What is a chaplain?
Chaplains…
- can be religious or secular
- accompany and support people through specific seasons of their lives (e.g.,college, military, etc.)
- are motivated by their own faith and/or ethical system and are trained and often ordained within a specific tradition, but serve in an interfaith capacity
- provide spiritual care and support in times of crisis and in other times as well
- provide a safe place to ask questions, to be heard, to explore issues of faith, spirituality, values, and personal identity.
Chaplains at Trinity College…
- accommodate the prayer and worship needs of the community
- provide opportunities for interfaith dialogue
- serve in a confidential capacity for pastoral counseling, including for Title IX
- provide opportunities for intellectual engagement with religion, faith, and spirituality
- collaborate with Student and Community Life, the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and Human Resources to ensure the religious/spiritual needs of the community are met.
